Group I (All subjects are compulsory)

        :: Introduction to Shipping
        :: Legal Principles in Shipping Business
        :: Economics of Sea Transport and International Trade
        :: Shipping Business

Candidates may select the following options in respect of Group 2 and 3 :-

Option A: Two subjects from Group 2 and one from Group 3
Option B : Three subjects from Group 2 and none from Group 3
Option C : One subject from Group 2 and two from Group 3.If this option is chosen only one Group 3 is exemptible the other must be taken with the Institute.

Group 2

         :: Dry Cargo Chartering
         :: Ship Operations and Management
         :: Ship Sale and Purchase
         :: Tanker Chartering
         :: Liner Trades
         :: Port Agency

Group 3

         :: Shipping Law
         :: Marine Insurance
         :: Financial and Management Accounting.
         :: International Through Transport.

Subjects may be taken in any order but candidates must sit a minimum of three subjects at their first attempt. Examinations must be completed within five years.

The choice of subjects will depend upon several factors such as past experience, current employment, exemptions if any etc.
A typical recommendation for a person who is working in shipping with an exemption only for Introduction to Shipping would be to spread the examination over three years, taking in the first year, Shipping Practice, Law of Carriage of Goods by sea and the Group 2 subject which is nearest to the candidates current nearest work
