The Foundation Diploma comprises two subjects:

Introduction to Shipping
And One of the Following specialist subjects:
   
    :: Dry Cargo Chartering
    :: Ship Management
    :: Ship Sale and Purchase
    :: Tanker Chartering
    :: Liner Trades
    :: Port Agency
    :: Port Terminal and Management
    :: Multi model Logistics and Transport
 

Candidates must sit and pass both subjects during the same exam session inn order to be awarded a Diploma. There are no exemptions from the Foundation Diploma Subjects.

Subjects passed for the Diploma will be credited towards the MICS qualifying examinations should the candidate wish to sit the full syllabus at some later date.

However going by the Sri Lankan Experience, Branch recommends that Students who wish to get the Professional Qualification should embark on the fast track of studying for the Qualifying Examination Subjects thereby cutting down the Time to obtain professional qualification by at least One Year
